In the last 24 hours 4,146 new cases have been reported in Israel. This is the highest number of new COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.

Antivirus group coronavir decided on Thursday to implement a three-step plan that includes universal quarantine, the government said in a statement.

During the first phase, residents could not move more than 500 m from their homes, schools, kindergartens, restaurants and most shops. According to media reports, the first phase of the plan will begin next Friday and will last for two weeks.

In the second phase, educational institutions, restaurants and shops will be closed, but people will be able to move freely within the city, but not between cities. During this phase, most students will study remotely. The second phase will also last two weeks.

According to the Ynet news portal, the government is considering a total ban on passenger flights during the quarantine.

According to the government, it is possible to return to the current, more lenient restrictions, if the number of COVID-19 cases falls again.

The government will also “formulate an economic safety net for businesses and citizens who will suffer financially.”

The quarantine restrictions have yet to be approved by the government, which will consider the issue on Sunday.

In Israel, the coronavirus was initially successfully controlled due to the strict quarantine introduced in March, but the government lifted many restrictions in May, leading to a rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
In Israel, a total of 147,379 COVID-19 cases and 1,086 deaths from the disease have been reported.

The country’s economy has been hit hard by COVID-19 and the unemployment rate has risen to more than 20 percent in the summer.
