On Wednesday, around eight o’clock in the evening, an accident occurred in Viekšniai, Bažnyčios street.
There was a message that people stayed in the car after the accident, they couldn’t get out. When officers and doctors arrived at the crash site, it was clear that the Mercedes Benz car was crashing into the stone fence that surrounded the Viekšniai church. The driver had already managed to get out of the crashed car at the time, and his male and female passengers remained in the car but were not pinched.
Thanks to the joint efforts of firefighters and doctors, the victims received first aid and were transferred to Mažeikiai hospital.
According to preliminary police data, the causes of the accident were speed, alcohol and an uncontrolled vehicle. The 31-year-old driver is suspected of being drunk, it was not possible to check him with an alcohol tester due to injuries, this will be clarified after the blood test.
Other people who were driving were also affected. The latter were intoxicated: a 41-year-old passenger was found to be 1.23 per thousand and a 38-year-old passenger was 1.51 per thousand.
A pre-trial investigation into this incident was launched at the Mažeikiai District Police Station.
