According to Olga Kilkinova, a member of the CEC, all necessary documents were gathered to prove that A. Guoga is no longer an Australian citizen as of 5 August.

“The CEC did a lot of work, applied to all the institutions, we received all the documents, which were approved by the embassy employee in accordance with the established procedure. An employee of the embassy confirmed to us that these documents are original, received in the prescribed manner. We received exactly the same documents directly from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and we also received a notification from the Migration Department, ”explained Olga Kilkinova, a member of the CEC.

“Since we have all the supporting documents that confirm the fact that Mr. Antanas Guoga does not have Australian citizenship, we also propose to register him as a candidate and not include him in the decision not to register candidates for non-compliance with article 2 of the Seimas Act. . 2 ”, he also stated at the hearing.

At the CEC commission meeting, A. Guoga himself emphasized that the commission’s decision to interpret whether he really does not have Australian citizenship was strange. The politician expressed the expectation that Lithuania will eventually modernize and have less bureaucracy in the country.

“I don’t know, as is the case in Lithuania, that we have to show that we are not something, and not the other way around. It was really strange and we lost a lot of time. He would like Lithuania to modernize one day and we could have less bureaucracy and more work to do, ”he said.

The politician was also pleased with the CEC’s decision on his Facebook account, noting that “the preconceived plan of political intrigues to prevent A. Guoga from participating in the Seimas elections failed.”

“Today, the CEC approved my candidacy. Can not it be a different way.

From the get-go, I was right and provided all the necessary official documents, which not only confirm my decision to renounce Australian citizenship, but also the actual revocation of citizenship, ”he wrote.

ELTA recalls that the CEC asked A. Guogos to provide additional data to show that he is no longer an Australian citizen and that he can actually stand in the Seimas elections. For his part, Guoga assured him that this summer he had renounced Australian citizenship and submitted documents to the CEC.

The politician said the CEC had doubts about citizenship due to lack of respect for both him and the Australian authorities.

Guoga announced that he had joined the Labor Party last week. The politician explained his choice to become a party as the goal of teamwork.

A. Guoga participated in the 2014 European Parliament elections as a member of the Liberal Movement. A few years later, the politician left the Liberal Movement and ran unsuccessfully with the Center Party in the 2019 European elections.
