Buyers focus on freshness

Vaida Budrienė, communication manager for retail chain Iki, says that for most shoppers, pork is meat, without which they can’t imagine their menu. Unsurprisingly, on average, a Lithuanian resident eats around 50kg a year, notably more than other types of meat, according to a press release.

According to V. Budrienė, when choosing pork, buyers pay attention to its freshness and Lithuanian origin.

“Our data shows that about 90 percent. The pork that is sold in our stores is weighed. Also, we note that buyers prefer the products of Lithuanian producers. This allows us to assume that the quality of the meat is the best. Top priority for our customers, because Lithuanian products mean high quality for them, ”says V. Budrienė.

According to her, although the most purchased types of pork are bacon and shoulder, there have been recent increases in sales of minced pork and minced meat.
