The Energy Distribution Operator (ESO) reports that it has sent 100,000 consumers who consume more than 5,000. kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, contact details and consumption. These households must choose a provider by December 10.
Only the data of those users who did not express their consent to share them with providers as of September 1 were transferred.
“When choosing a provider for your home, we recommend that you read the provider’s offer carefully, weigh it, compare it, and only then make the right decision for yourself. The most important thing is to do it before December 10, ”says Mindaugas Keizeris, ESO Executive Director.
ESO will provide a guaranteed supply service to consumers who have not chosen an electricity supplier on time, but only for half a year, in this case from January 1 to June 30 of the following year.
“Therefore, residents are urged to choose the right electricity supplier without delay, whether the resident looks for it himself or receives the offer from a specific supplier, the decision was and will be in the hands of the consumer alone,” the report says.
All those who want to choose a new supplier can now, both entering the first and the next stage of choosing electricity suppliers, without waiting for the term assigned to them, 2021 or 2022.
The liberalization of the electricity supply market to households is taking place in stages. Consumers who consume between 1 and 5 thousand per year. kWh of electricity enters the second stage, they will have to make similar decisions next year (although it may before), while the least consumers (up to 1 thousand kWh per year) will enter the third stage and will have to decide in 2022.
The public information website selectitetiekeja.lt currently lists five independent electricity providers: Elektrum Lietuva, Enefit, Inregnum, Perlas Energija, Ignitis.
In May, the Seimas approved the full liberalization of the electricity supply market. Currently, the majority of the population purchases electricity from Ignitis, a company owned by the state-owned Ignitis group, which now also operates as a public provider, and the price is regulated by the State Energy Regulatory Council (VERT).
