Trying to run the duck
Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said Thursday that the most important work of this session is the presentation of next year’s budget.
“I would like to be optimistic, but apparently that session will not be very productive. However, a work program has been presented, undoubtedly the most important work is the budget for next year, ”Prime Minister S. Skvernelis told reporters at the Seimas before the meeting.
The prime minister denied rumors that there were no more funds for next year’s pension increase.
“There is an attempt at hearsay or to circumvent that pensions will not be indexed, they will definitely be indexed.” Our economic indicators and forecasts allow us to do that, and we will, “promised the prime minister.
Blame the noise
Ramūnas Karbauskis, leader of the Lithuanian Union of Greens and Peasants (LVŽS), stated that pensions will be indexed, even if the relevant bills need to be amended.
“The situation in Lithuania is really good. Yesterday, the leader of the opposition, Gabrielius Landsbergis, expressed his doubts about whether Lithuania could index pensions, and I say it very clearly: they will be indexed. If some economic indicators do not comply with current regulations , so during this period we will fix that law so that we can act ”, said the member of the Seimas.
The LVŽS leader said the opposition simply “lied” when intimidating about pensions.
Fear of political “mines”
G. Landsbergis, leader of the National Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) and leader of the opposition, told reporters in the Seimas that the last session of this Seimas begins with anxiety, a lot of bills and anxiety that the government will not show next year’s budget until the Seimas elections.
“About 500 bills are included in the session’s work program. And Lithuania is leading according to the foreseen laws and does not continue to deviate from them. I think that political groups should decide only on priority works,” recommended G Landsbergis.
The TS-LKD leader stressed to the media that the conservatives, as the rulers say, never said they would not index pensions when they came to power.
“It just came to our attention then. There is a legal indexation, as well as the fact that if the GDP reaches negative values, the indexing must be stopped. This problem has been raised by the president of the country, because he sees that such a problem can arise “It requires a reform of the law. That could have been planned before and there are more problems with that,” he said.
The politician said that more critical points arise from this problem. And the “mines” that are already being left to the new government.
“The Sodra reserve has already been released, from which the indexing would take place next year. (…) We estimate that there are already 300 million euros missing. It is obvious that this is a big problem for the rulers, because money borrowed is spent, leaving the mine to the other government, “said the head of TS-LKD.
Landsbergis said the state budget project for next year was also very difficult to predict.
“We do not know, I imagine that the rulers will do everything possible so that the public sees the budget at the last second. So we will all see the budget just before the second round of the elections. When people vote, they will not know for what future they are voting, what awaits them next year, ”said G. Landsbergis.
Delphi remember that the elections to the Seimas will be held on October 11 and its second round on October 27.
And next year’s state budget will be posted on October 17, presented on October 25.
