A man detained by border guards in the Jonava district was transporting contraband cigarettes and illegal alcohol in a Renault Megane Scenic car. Cigarettes and house vodka were also found in his garage. A total of 1,500 Belarusian smokers’ packages and 129 liters of alcohol were seized.

On Monday, officers from the Criminal Intelligence Division of the SBGS Pagėgiai Border Team stopped a Renault Megane Scenic car with Lithuanian numbers for inspection in the Jonava district, within the limits of the village of Turžėnai. It was driven by a 61-year-old resident of the Jonava district.

Border guards found 9 plastic containers in the cabin and trunk of the Renault Megane Scenic, which contained about 113 liters of clear liquid, emitting a specific vodka odor from the house. The car also contained 730 packages of various types of cigarettes with special Belarusian stamps.

SBGS officials soon carried out an authorized search for a garage belonging to Jonaviškis in Girininkai II village in Jonava district. Here, border guards found another 4,758 packages of various types of Belarusian cigarettes and 5 plastic containers with 16 liters of suspected homemade vodka.

A pre-trial investigation was launched at the SBGS Pagėgiai Border Team regarding the illegal storage of domestic spirits and the illegal disposal of goods subject to excise duty.

A resident of the Jonava district was detained by border guards and detained.
