This weekend, the coronavirus, which has taken over social media, was hit by shocking images of animal breeders found across Lithuania. The Facebook group formed by lightning “Let’s save the animals from hell” currently has 61 thousand. The country’s familiar faces, opinion formers and politicians are also trying to step in to actively contribute to the rescue campaign shaking Lithuania.

However, there is only one name behind it all. D.Guobyte was contacted only after a few days: thousands of messages and calls, sleepless nights and new points appeared. The model, the founder of the support fund “Lithuania – for animals”, currently lives in this state of mind. At the beginning of the conversation, Deimantė apologized if his thoughts were scattered; She only managed to fall asleep at night from Monday to Tuesday. Still, during those six hours of sleep, it was hard to forget what she saw or what she still expected.

– Diamond, how did it all start, what was the first impulse?

– It all started Thursday night. It started with a woman searching for his missing pet in Kretinga. She searched all night and found a building where she heard dogs barking, turned on and saw many cages through a small window. In some, some dogs are simply hidden. The cages are such that the dogs cannot even turn around, stand up, have no food or water.

Among those cages he found his own animal. The fact that you have found it is a true success story. What a coincidence that someone had left her the key, she went in, took her dog, called the police. By law, officials did not allow other animals to be taken, they had to wait until tomorrow.

The next day volunteers gathered, I came and brought with me, if necessary, there were policemen, journalists. My friend and I share everything on Instagram, we invite people to join. The animals were kept up to 2 hours without food, nothing until the multiplier finally arrived. Since I was pregnant, we behaved calmly, without conflict. But she just calmly, even mockingly, assured him that everything was fine here, it seemed like she didn’t even care what was going on.

It turned out that she was already known for this activity, we read several articles, in 2014 she was caught in exactly the same place, there was a scandal, but still the activity continued. From her behavior, she saw that she was not afraid, she knew that after all, she could resume this illegal activity. I do not know if it is supported by the services, I cannot guarantee that it is my opinion.

We rescued the animals, they took them to the shelter. We get back in the car and think, “It can’t be all that.” Since we saw the cubs but not their mothers, it is obvious that they are hiding somewhere. There were adult labradors, but we saw little bulldogs, spaniels, dachshunds …

Then we received messages from women who bought her dogs, called her and it turned out that all the offers on the advertising portals had disappeared, they had been removed. So they erased all the evidence overnight, but thank goodness other people had already managed to preserve the evidence.

After receiving this information, we returned to Kretinga and began to organize another inspection. And at night we found another place where the breeding dogs were kept in simply inhuman conditions: no food, wounded, bones, fur, no light. So we called the police again, the staff came from the shelters, they took the dogs out. The next day we received information about other points, people started to react, then all of Lithuania was united.

What is happening now is really space, as even more terrible things are coming out that are just shocking.

– After all, some of your actions have been outraged. For example, some have wondered why you share a multiplier’s personal information from your phone.

– We knew that we could be held responsible for this, but we knew that if we gave his phone number to the police, it was not clear if it would really be effective. There are many incredible policemen, but as far as we know, the multiplier’s husband works for the police, there is a whole caste, so there was no other way out, we had to prove that she sells animals, because she herself assured everyone that. On her phone, which she had left, it was clear that she was selling them, people also wrote that she had bought them.

He is currently on the run, hiding, fearing he had taken the dogs out. We found out that her mother was also a multiplier in Taurage, so we went there. Her neighbor reported that the woman had been trying to get the pets out all night, hiding them in the woods, covering the cages with sheets. As much as we find animals, it’s scary.

– How many illegal kennels and abandoned animals have been found to date?

– We have visited about 60-70 places, we have found about 50 multipliers. But the problem is that the hand washes the hand, because the police cannot do much to help, because there are also those who call each other by name. Especially in towns where they know well, and since in my opinion they get a piece of the cake for it too, it’s probably not easy to fight.

– However, as soon as everything turned upside down, there was a bit of chaos in the public space, because people started attacking apparently innocent people, document multipliers. Did you manage to fix the situation?

– This is misinformation. Now he wants to defame us. We communicate with many volunteers, we discover many places throughout Lithuania, where not all of us manage to visit, because the amount of information is great. You can’t imagine what the mob is all about – we’re just eating a small slice of the cake.

Now we have a system, we have regional leaders, we are talking about who will be on duty when we publish the information. However, now everyone, even legal kennels, is forced to exert themselves, those who engage in illegal activities are also, of course, trying to rectify the situation.

We have to drive and check because we found really tragic places, I’ll just ask for patience.

– It is difficult to talk about the future, but what are the next steps? How long will this rescue operation last? Perhaps you hope to actively fight for tougher fines?

– We really won’t stop. This will continue until the situation changes. People are militants, although of course there are those who complain, who think there is no need for a fuss, or, as we have said, angry because we are controlling.

People need to be patient, clench their teeth, and realize that a blow is now taking place and that not everyone can be happy. Maybe they will disturb innocent people sometimes, but after inspection we will mark everything.

– There is no lack of support in the public space. Is there another side to the coin?

– Everything happens, but we try to ignore it, because the most important thing at this time is to save the animals. If you start responding to angry comments now, there will be nothing – we need action, not words.

It is very surprising that so many people have come together and expressed so much support. We really didn’t expect that, it’s a new generation that cares.

– How are you now?

– They were really sleepless nights. Yesterday was the first night that I was able to sleep 6 hours because we have appointed responsible regional leaders, they have assistants. They made the situation much easier, but we continued to communicate intensively, trying to call everyone. Even with my husband, we have not had much communication in the last few days, we have only minimally understood a few words because I simply do not have time to respond to all the messages.

At the moment, it is really impossible to let go of the phone from my hands, even when I go to sleep I cannot forget the images of the rescue operations. However, since so many terrible things have come up that I can’t talk about yet, we don’t promise to calm down.

– You received no threats?

– Yes, this is a terrible mafia. Everyone tells me that now I would look over my shoulder more often because there really is a lot of money and networks behind this. But if that’s the price of this fight, I don’t care. I’ve always been for animals and that won’t stop me.

It was only now that I realized where I wanted, what was behind the clan. The man had gone to Estonia for a few days, he was afraid to go out to ride the dogs, because there were already situations where they followed me from Kretinga to Klaipeda, I had to ride the wheels until the car broke down.

– Still, aren’t you afraid that it will make you want to profit? There are so many different animal shelters in public space right now that it is no longer clear if the money is being transferred to whoever needs it.

– I posted several animal shelters that I collaborate with in Klaipeda on my Instagram, I know. I would not like to highlight anything, but there is a real need to find a responsible search for who will use the funds correctly. Unfortunately, it must be recognized that not all animal shelters do the right job.
