Kalvarijų Street will soon be delivered to the public remotely. from Konstitucijos ave. Trimitų st. and from Žalgirio st. J. Treinio st. revision project, Ozo streets of Gelvonų street. to Kernavės st. reconstruction project and T. Narbuto street on Laisvės avenue. to Erelių st. reconstruction project, reported the municipality of Vilnius.
Kalvarijų St.: Separate lanes: tidier and faster traffic
During the capital Kalvarijų st. (from Konstitucijos avenue to Trimitų street and from Žalgirio street to J. Treinio street) Lane A will be installed and green areas and pavements will be renewed.
In the Vilnius transport system, Kalvarijų Street plays a very important role for the movement of passengers by public transport between the northern part of the city, Baltupiai and Jerusalem, and the central part of the city.
Kalvarijų st. In accordance with the solutions of the general plan of the city of Vilnius, the category of main streets C, which are the functional and compositional axes of the city plan, are assigned to the main lines of public passenger transport and the connections of internal transport of the city. Therefore, the installation of a public transport lane here is intended to improve the operation of the urban transport system so that citizens can reach their destination more quickly and conveniently.
Now from Žalgiris to J. Treinio str. Almost twice as many passengers travel by public transport per hour as by car, and from Konstitucijos Avenue to Trimitų Street, almost 7 times more. Experts have calculated that installing A-lanes will improve the quality of travel for a large proportion of people traveling on this street, as well as shorten it and encourage them to plan trips on public transport.
Project proposals were prepared in accordance with the Vilnius City Municipality Sustainable Mobility Plan.
Currently, Kalvarij calle Street has 4 lanes of traffic, therefore, when designing separate public transport lanes, the street is not distributed, but only the traffic lanes are redrawn, distinguishing between car traffic and transport public. The street provides one lane for automobiles and one lane for public transportation in each direction.
This section provides for the removal of 8 trees and the planting of 36 trees, as well as the planting of 405 shrubs.
Ozo str .: The missing sections of lane A will be installed
The Ozo street reconstruction project (from Gelvonų street to Kernavės street) also includes the installation of lane A. This is one of the main axes connecting the western part of the city, where it dominates the construction of residential buildings in multiple apartments (Fabijoniškės, Šeškinė, Viršuliškės, Justiniškės districts), with the eastern part of the city.
In accordance with the solutions of the General Plan of the city of Vilnius, Ozo street is assigned to category B. Its main function is to provide communication between the functional areas of the city, the districts, the centers, the main transport stations and connections to suburban roads.
Projected Public Transportation Lane A is on the south side of Ozo Street. Currently from Ozo str. and Buivydiškių st. intersection to Ozo str. and Gelvonų st. The intersection is already a public transportation lane, just as the public transportation lane appears from the Ozas shopping center and continues to Kalvarijų Street. and Ozo str. intersections Therefore, to ensure the continuation of public transport lanes, the installation of the Gelvonų str. and Ozo str. intersections with the existing public transportation lane.
Ozo public transport lane str. It is planned to install by reducing existing traffic lanes and widening the street to the dividing line. It is also planned to close the turning points in Ozo str. on the viaduct through Geležinio Vilko str. To improve traffic safety, the Ozas security island will be distributed on PC, turning it into a dividing strip, and the vehicles will be turned through viaducts.
Ozo g. in the dividing strip, from Gelvonų st. 250 new trees are planned to be planted to the “Licėjus” public transport stop.
T. Narbuto st .: will expand up to six lanes in some places
During the reconstruction of T. Narbuto Street (from Laisvės Avenue to Erelių Street), it is planned to install lanes A, a pedestrian path and a bicycle lane.
T. Narbuto Street is the main axis connecting the central part of the city with the districts of Pilaitė, Karoliniškės, Viršuliškės and Justiniškės. According to the solutions of the Vilnius City Master Plan, it is assigned to category B (main street), so the main function of the street is communication between the functional areas of the city, districts, centers, stations main transport and ensure connections to suburban roads.
T. Narbuto street de Laisvės ave. to Erelių st. Lanes A are designed by distributing the roadway in up to 6 lanes. The distribution takes place next to the dividing strip and, where the dividing strip is too narrow, outside the street (technical sidewalk).
In the section of T. Narbuto street between Sėlių and Erelių st. it was built in the ravine, therefore, it is proposed to install a viaduct for pedestrian cyclists in Elnių street to connect both T. Narbuto st. bicycle and pedestrian trails have been or are being designed on both sides, and there would be convenient communication between the Northern and Southern Žvėrynas districts. Once the viaduct is installed, it is proposed to remove two existing traffic light controlled crossings (at Stirnų St. and Gervių St.).
As a retaining wall should be installed on the slope (between Ereliai and Sėlių st.) When distributing the street, it is proposed to install the retaining wall not at a minimum, but at the height of the slope and fill the slope to the level of Sidewalk.
During the implementation of these works, it is planned to organize the north side of T. Narbuto Street, a brush covered slope that has not been maintained for many years, where almost all the trees are in unsatisfactory conditions, they grow too dense, crooked, spinning from the wind. The preliminary inspection revealed that there may be a total of around 200 trees to be removed.
On the positive side, more people living in Karoliniškės, Viršuliškės and Pilaitė will be able to reach the city center by choosing a means of travel that does not pollute the environment or make noise.
A narrow, narrow sidewalk with tree roots would also be rebuilt. Installing a retaining wall instead of a slope at this location would create space for a bike path, a tree-lined walkway surrounded on both sides and adequately illuminated.
To protect the surrounding population from atmospheric and noise pollution, the implementation of infrastructure solutions and maximum replanting of vegetation are planned. Project proposals initially foresee the planting of 45 trees, but these are just the initial numbers that will grow during the preparation of the technical design, when the routes of engineering networks and communication solutions will be specified. Shrubs are also provided.
“On the positive side, more people living in Karoliniškės, Viršuliškės and Pilaitė will be able to reach the city center by choosing a means of travel that does not pollute the environment and make noise, and traveling by public transport will be even faster. Almost one hundred One thousand inhabitants of these districts will open a new qualitative way of traveling to the city center. We will do our best to take into account the needs of the surrounding residents as much as possible during the implementation of this complex project, and create the most abundant green belt along the street, ”said Vytautas Mitalas, deputy mayor of Vilnius.
When comparing the existing and projected landscaping, it should be noted that on Elnių Street, where even two apartment buildings (Elnių St. 9 and Elnių St. 20) are close to the street, there is no landscape, and if the current situation persists, it would not be possible to plant them. Project proposals even include two rows of trees at this location.
During the reconstruction of T. Narbuto Street, planted trees will complement the range of trees and shrubs in the environment. It is planned to plant small-leaved lime trees, common maples, common pine trees, hawthorn, rowan, ornamental apples, common oils, nursery jasmine. In the project proposal stage, it is planned to plant 45 trees and 900 cubic meters. meters of bushes. It is estimated that the number of trees to be planted during technical design can increase to 80.
Project proposals on the three streets can be sent to project promoters by email. by email [email protected] until May 21 of this year at 5 p.m. and during a public meeting.
Due to quarantine restrictions, a public hearing on these project proposals will be televised on May 21 at 5 p.m. Transmission link here.
