As reported by the Government, the study was presented at the Government Chancellery on Monday.

According to the study results, 4.5 thousand people could be designed on the plot near IJ Kraševskio street, near the Šolomas Aleichem gym. UEFA Category III football stadium with national and international football competitions.

These findings, according to the report, are based on an assessment of UEFA’s requirements for Category III football stadiums, the available terrain, the results of exploratory geological studies and other aspects.

Currently, the plot with the stadium is managed by the Lithuanian budget institution Sports Center.

“We hope that this decision on the installation of a stadium in the city center that meets international criteria will lead to higher and higher results,” said Lukas Savickas, First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Government.

The feasibility study emphasizes that the stadium would be accessible primarily on foot and that only the necessary parking spaces for staff and players would be provided near the plaza. Furthermore, by designing only one football stadium at this location, the recreational area next to the stadium could be expanded for Vilnius residents.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Education, Science and Sports and the Sports Center of Lithuania promise to start implementing the idea of developing a football stadium in this place already this year, preparing an investment project, and the contracting works would begin next year.

It is considered that the construction of the stadium could be completed in 2023.

The Vilnius municipality has so far considered building a new UEFA-compatible national stadium with other sports and leisure infrastructures, but the project has stalled due to concession disputes with the government and other state institutions.

In Kaunas, after the break, it is also planned to renew the reconstruction of the Darius and Gir previstonas stadiums in October.
