“This is a neighboring country, we have a long enough common border, but Lithuania’s position is very clear, we unconditionally support the democratic process in Belarus, we defend the protection of rights and freedoms and, finally, the organization of fair elections. “People who have suffered various persecutions and repressions in the Republic of Belarus since the regime have full possibility to enter Lithuania by decision of the Government. We apply a facilitated regime to those who have suffered repression. “

“We also allocate resources to the Belarusian population affected by violence to receive treatment, receive rehabilitation, support democratic processes, provide opportunities for Belarusian students to study in Vilnius, establish scholarships, establish other humanitarian assistance as necessary. Our state is trying to coordinate the actions of neighboring states regarding certain sanctions against the Belarusian regime, and I hope that we will find common solutions. “The Baltic states have made a joint decision on the sanctions that will be imposed on people, and those that are being deportees from the country find a safe haven in our country, “he continued.

According to the Prime Minister, the problems in Belarus should be an EU-wide issue.

“A Lithuania cannot really solve this problem, it is a problem of the whole EU and more. If we find quick diplomatic solutions, we will be able to influence the situation to some extent, without, of course, interfering in the internal affairs of that state, which it is their competence, ”said the Prime Minister.

“It is a serious situation, but I believe in the democratic processes that are taking place in Belarus. Look, for a month the unstoppable processes, Belarusian society, democracy have rebelled and whoever expected it to fail, it seems that it will not. Hundreds Thousands are taking to the streets. We must support these processes in a democratic and legal way, “added S. Skvernelis.
