“The Seimas is already being convened for the last session of this period. The session’s work program proposes 540 projects. (…) I could joke that everyone says that a lot of projects, but a large part of them are personal initiatives, no one rejects them, everyone wants to be distinguished ”, said V. Pranckietis about the proposals of the members of the Seimas.
During the last plenary session of the Seimas, 364 legal acts were approved.
“It is clear that there will not be enough time for all these projects, it will continue to be part of the future,” said the president of Seimas. He promised that the mandate would be based on the principle of priority.

“We must highlight the peculiarities of the session: the Government’s program is coming to an end, the big problem is the control of the coronavirus, it is still relevant, because the second wave does not seem to allow us to relax. And the third point of joke is the election, of course, everyone will want to appear and the debate will last much longer than usual, “predicted the politician.
The new Seimas will be elected and convened on November 12 or 16.
“We will have to control the passions of the elections in those sessions, because we must fight for productive work, not for populism,” said the president of Seimas.
New budget
Rima Baškienė, first vice president of the Seimas, said that despite the large number of bills, it is the responsibility of the members of the Seimas to participate in the sessions, emphasized the parliamentarian in communication with the head of the country.
“We discussed the most important aspects with the president: passing legislation, not registering new ones.” It is very important for us – parliamentary control over the situation that is now in the country, against the state budget, “he said.

“The Seimas of this legislature will not only have to present, but also carry out the first reading of the budget, it is an enormous responsibility,” he emphasized.
Next year’s state budget will be posted on October 17 and presented on October 25.
Fear of chaos
Gabrielius Landsbergis, chairman of the Union of the Fatherland – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) party, said after the meeting that he was concerned about possible chaos in the Seimas.
The three main points that rang out in the debate: A little concerning with the abundance of laws that have been introduced and recorded, we have more than half a thousand laws that should at least be presented in the fall session, realizing that there are not that many meetings. Members of the Seimas participate in meetings with voters, prepare for debates, which can lead to even greater chaos in the Seimas, ”said the politician.
He urged rulers to select important bills.
“My suggestion to the rulers is to look for ways to reduce those laws. Because we want as little confusion and confusion as possible,” said G. Landsbergis.

Another issue discussed: the appearance of provisions related to next year’s budgets.
“The president has raised so many fears that Sodra’s budget, which is not being raised and its reserve, which has been released, should have been used to index next year’s pensions, that the money is not there. We don’t know anything, the figures have not been provided, because this Government has refused to enter the budget for the correction ”, he recalled.
Landsbergis said the country’s toughest stance on Belarus was also missing. Therefore, a new resolution is foreseen for the new session of the Seimas. It contains provisions for the next meeting between Aliaksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin, during which the creation of a common state can be discussed.
“In my opinion, the signing of such an agreement would lead to a de facto annexation of Belarus. If Lithuania does not recognize the president, the elections, it should not recognize the international agreements that arise from the illegal signature of the president,” said the TS leader. -LKD.
He appealed to the list presented by Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius, by which national sanctions are announced, as well as approved by the Seimas resolution.
“End of the marathon”
As Povilas Mačiulis, head of the president’s internal political group, reported to the media after the meeting, he expressed the country’s chief’s wish not to stumble ahead of the elections.
“The president visually summed up the current situation in the Seimas: the end of the marathon. And he wished that the Seimas did not stumble at the finish line. Even though the electoral period is likely to be more chaotic in the Seimas as regards to decision making, there are examples in which the parties can agree ”, said the presidential adviser.
