Feeling of pain and discomfort.
Bieranc encountered this problem, called Diupitren’s contracture, about a year and a half ago. According to him, the problem of a specific event that would have led to the little finger being attracted in this way, as if it did not exist, seemed to arise on its own. At first, the finger was slightly bent, a lump appeared on the palm, and over time it began to progress.
“It is possible to live with a pulled finger, but it causes discomfort. Because of that finger, I cannot play sports or participate in active entertainment. I really liked waterboarding, but this summer I had to give up that hobby,” says the famous.
N.Bierancas states that due to the attraction of the baby, he could not perform even basic sports exercises, such as push-ups, because the finger did not stretch. On the other hand, bending the finger and holding the weight correctly has also become difficult. It was too difficult to do some of the physical work that hand required.

“That finger is bent all the time, and if you try to stretch it, it bathes, stretches, and presses. Besides, this way the finger is even more traumatic, ”says Bierancas, adding that he would not have believed that the little finger could be so important in daily activities.
You want to go to the gym
As N. Bieranc says, this problem is not very visually visible: the finger just doesn’t fully extend and there are some lumps on the palm. “If I sat down and did nothing, it wouldn’t cause any problems, but I’d still like to make a difference in this life,” smiles the opinion maker.
Among the things a young man would like to do in the near future is going to the gym. For this reason, N.Bierancas decided to contact Gediminas Samulėnas, a plastic and reconstructive surgery doctor, who offered to operate on the finger. “I thought it was almost the only one, but the doctor assured me that this is typical of thousands. And in fact, when you look around, you can see examples of this type in the environment, especially among the elderly,” says N. Banks.
“Viking disease”, more common in men
According to G.Samulėnas, a plastic and reconstruction physician at Nordclinic, Diupitren’s contracture occurs in several forms: T
in which case surgery is not required. And sometimes there are more aggressive forms of the disease, when the finger is bent more, the person can no longer touch a flat surface with the palm (this is called a “table” test), it is difficult for him to play sports or perform other activities physical, feel pain. These are signs that surgical treatment is needed. Furthermore, it is worth bearing in mind that if the disease progresses significantly, the contracture of the finger exceeds 135 °, and the operation is still delayed, sometimes the amputation of the finger is required ”.
G.Samulėnas explains that the treatment of Diupitren’s contracture is exclusively surgical, but the origin and pathogenesis of this disease are still not entirely clear. “It is well known that the tendency to contract the disease is inherited mainly genetically and affects men more often, especially the middle-aged and older people. Diupitren’s contracture is also associated with physical activity: it is more common in those who like active leisure, where there is a lot of work on their hands or who do physical work. This factor is considered hand microtrauma. It is important to mention that this is not a tendon disease as is often thought. The disease is not caused by a shortened tendon, but by the contraction of the fascia of the palm ”, says G.Samulėnas.
It is interesting that among doctors Diupiter’s contracture is also called “Viking disease”, because its roots are in Scandinavia; For a long time, most of the cases of this disease have been documented in the Nordic countries, to which Lithuania can be attributed in part.
You can do sports in a month
According to G.Samulėnas, the case of N.Bieranco is a bit unusual, because he is a young man whose disease is not very advanced, but it has already begun to interfere with daily life and the finger is no longer straightened. Therefore, a famous man will have a hand surgery, aponeurectomy, on Monday. It is a moderately complex operation that takes about an hour. In about a month, your finger should heal completely and N.Bierancas will be able to play sports.
“It happens that this problem is repeated over the years, because the operation eliminates the consequences of the disease, but does not stop the process itself. In this case, the operation can be repeated. In any case, this solution allows a person to live a full life and carry out their favorite activities ”, concludes the plastic and reconstructive surgery doctor.
