UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab says it was “obvious” that a Kremlin critic had been poisoned by Novičiok’s nerve-crippling material from the Soviet era. An attempt was made to poison a former Russian double agent in Salisbury.
“As for the culprits, it is very difficult to find a convincing explanation where this could have come from, if not from the Russian state, because Novičiok is very difficult to obtain and difficult to control. So now it is clear that the Russian government has to answer a series of serious questions, “Raab told Sky News.
On Thursday, he spoke with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and informed him that the UK would cooperate with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, forcing Russia to provide answers.
According to Raab, the investigation would determine whether the Russian government was involved in the poisoning attempt. He also called the use of chemical weapons “disgusting” and “pure gangsterism.”
