The new contractors plan to undertake more detailed preparations in September and will complete more work in October.

The Kaunas municipality was looking for a new contractor for the stadium after terminating the contract with the Turkish company Kayi Construction in January this year. One of the reasons for terminating the contract was failure to adhere to the agreed schedule.

“We have drawn conclusions and today we are reassured knowing that one of the most important objects in Kaunas is being built by a Kaunas company: Autokausta. This in itself is an additional responsibility of the contractors to ensure that all work is carried out without problems already. time, ”said the mayor of Kaunas, Visvaldas Matijošaitis, in the report.

According to the municipality, the previous contractor has done about a quarter of the work: demolition of the old stadium structures has been completed, engineering communications have been laid, construction of an underground car park and VIP stands has started.

The Kaunas Municipality signed a contract for the reconstruction of the S. Darius and S. Girėnas stadiums with the Turkish construction company Kayi Construction in June 2018, its value amounted to 34.95 million LTL. euros.

After reconstruction, the number of seats in the stadium starts at 9.5 thousand. it will increase to 15 thousand, and all the stands will be covered with a roof. The stadium will have modern underfloor heating and will meet UEFA’s top category 4 requirements.

In mid-August, the Kaunas municipality signed agreements with Autokausta for the reconstruction of the stadium and the construction of the Science Island Science Museum on Nemunas Island.

The value of the stadium works will reach 32 million. 24.3 million euros for the “Islands of Science”. Both projects are scheduled to be implemented in 2022.
