According to A. Novak, the prospects for supplying electricity from the Astrava nuclear power plant were discussed during talks between the heads of government of Russia and Belarus Mikhail Mishustin and Raman Haluchanka on Thursday in Minsk.

“The issues of the electricity supply of the nuclear power plant were also discussed during the meeting of the prime ministers of Russia and Belarus. The relevant agencies are obliged to address the issues of operation of the electrical systems of both countries,” said the Russian minister.

According to Novak, he and his Belarusian counterpart agreed that a special working group would be established in the near future to address all these issues.

The first nuclear power plant in Belarus near the Lithuanian state border is being built by the Russian state nuclear power corporation Rosatom, and the project is financed by a Russian state loan. The plant will have two reactors from the Russian VVER project, each with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts.

Minsk has announced that the loading of nuclear fuel into the first reactor will be completed on August 20 and, when it is turned on, a controlled minimum level of 1% will be reached. power, and will start generating electricity in November. The second reactor is expected to come online approximately one year after the first reactor is commissioned.

Lithuania is the most active critic of the Astravas nuclear power plant project and emphasizes the need to comply with safety requirements. Meanwhile, Minsk rejects Vilnius’ accusations of ignoring them.

Earlier this week, the Lithuanian Ministry of Energy announced that the three Baltic countries were approaching final harmonization of the technical steps required for the joint electrical boycott of the Astravas nuclear power plant.
