Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion of the 69th Regiment of the 2nd Brigade of the United States Ground Forces arrive in Lithuania.

Together with soldiers from Lithuania and other allies, they will train at the training camp in Pabradė, Švenčionys district, this fall, the Ministry of National Defense (KAM) announced.

“The rotation of US forces in Lithuania is a very important deterrent contributing to NATO efforts in the Baltic region. Our goal is to ensure adequate conditions for US soldiers to train here,” said the minister. of National Defense, Raimundas Karoblis.

The Americans come to train in Lithuania as part of the US Ground Forces operation in the eastern part of the “Atlantic Determination” Alliance.

US Army troops in the Baltic states and Eastern Europe have been rotating and training since the spring of 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea.

“These are pre-planned exercises of US soldiers in Lithuania, which are not associated with any event in the region,” says the statement from the Ministry of National Defense.

From October last year to June this year, the 1st Battalion of the 9th Regiment of the 1st Division of the United States Army trained in Lithuania. At that time, the Americans also brought heavy equipment: about 30 Abrams tanks, more than 20 “Bradley” infantry fighting vehicles, and other military equipment.
