The former handyman of the national team who has become the coach of the historic club: the impression is ambiguous

The established Baltic Handball Association has decided that from now on only the strongest teams from Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia will compete in the championships; there are no more teams from Belarus, Finland and Ukraine in the league.

The competition will take place on a two-wheel system, with the 8 strongest teams advancing to the quarterfinals. The results of matches between teams from the same country will also be counted in the national championship.

On the first day of the Baltic League competition, Lithuanian clubs will test each other. Beautiful 7pm Granitas-Karys will meet Šviesa, who won the LRF Super Cup this weekend, and at the same time a match between Dragūnas and Varsa will start in Klaipeda.

Just before the start of the season, the Granito-Kario club announced that the veteran and captain of the Lithuanian team Vaidotas Grosas, who played in the French top league last season and defended the honor of the Istres team, is in charge of the team.

“It still sounds interesting when the ‘coaches’ apply. I need to get used to it, but I’m improving a bit in this role,” said Granito-Kario head coach.

– How long did the decision to become the Kaunas team head coach mature and what motivated you to accept this job?

– I played abroad for a long time, I have children and planned to return to Lithuania after my career. I started thinking about it a year and a half ago.

– The fact that you chose “Granite-Curry” is probably not a coincidence? Still, it is the club that left a living mark on your player’s career.

– This is my first professional club from which I went abroad. There I achieved what I achieved. The club, learning that he planned to return, got in touch and was able to reach an agreement.

– How much did you participate in the composition of this season?

– Lukas Feoktistov and I started to draw contours already in February.

– The Baltic Handball League fights start on Wednesday. What would you mark as favorites in this league?

– Hard to say. There are many teams: Latvian “Tenax”, Estonian “Serviti”, our country “Dragūnas”, “Šviesa”. There are no bright favorites, but there is a large roster of teams of roughly similar capacity.

– What are your first impressions after the break of seeing the country bag from the inside again?

– Ambiguous impression. I saw everything from the side, so I knew how things were going. Now if I look closely, I can say that the situation is not the best, but not catastrophic either. I think that working hard and doing something can improve those things.

– What are the club’s goals both this season and in the long term?

– Results do not work in one day. Specific work is needed in all areas: communication, marketing and within the club. We want the club to be visible, because Granitas-Karys has been forgotten in the last year. When it comes to sports, you want to get back to the level you were before. There are no miracles and those things do not happen in a day, it will take a year or two to achieve what was before.
