Encouraging September, the climatologist warned of winter

“September is expected to be 1-1.5 degrees warmer than usual. We have to accept the fact that it is fall and inevitably cooler, but if it is rewarding, September is expected to be warmer than it should be. Precipitation should decrease. Valiukas, climatologist at the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, at the Delfi Rytas fair.

The climatologist admitted that he did not have universal advice on when it is better to go on vacation in the fall because every year is different, but he says that for those who do not seek heat this September can be quite good.

“Lithuanian air is affected by air masses from various directions. If there is a situation where we are exposed to Atlantic cyclones starting to move one after the other, be it July, August or September, any time will be unfavorable because there will be a lot of rain But if more anticyclonic weather prevails, both September and early October can be a really good time for the holidays, especially for those not looking for too much heat.

Based on this year’s trends, it looks like there will be everything: such a changeable climate in Lithuania. However, September is still considered a warm period, and for those not looking for high temperatures, it can still be quite favorable, “said D. Valukas.

Also, the climatologist did not speculate when we will have a “summer bob” this year. Generally, this golden season of good weather does not come to us every year.

“We don’t get them every year, and we don’t always call what we should call ‘Bob’s Summer.’ It is related to a certain atmospheric circulation, (…) and it occurs at different times of the year and lasts at different times, sometimes only a few days, sometimes there may be a few weeks. Usually it’s late September, early October, it can be until mid-October. As it will be this year, it is too early to say, because the circulatory processes are not yet clear, ”said D. Valiukas.

Winters are no longer expected as before

So far, the climatologist has not been able to say anything specific about what kind of winter we can expect. However, the scientist was open: we cannot expect winters as long and white as before due to climate change.

“We can wait for weeks and months apart (with snow and cold), but as it was, it never will be,” said D. Valiukas.

According to the climatologist, as the weather changes, so do the seasons.

“Last winter was one of the examples where there was no snow, big positive anomalies were registered. But that doesn’t mean that every year will be the same. Looking not just this year, but decades ahead as well, the likelihood of it happening again is growing as the weather warms up. Each year is very individual, it largely depends on how the air masses will form, which will affect both the Lithuanian and European climate. Nobody can predict how this winter will be so early, because very small processes that have taken place somewhere can change the situation, ”said D. Valiukas.

It will be hot for the next few days, but it will rain

According to the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, it will be cloudy on a clear night on the night of September 3. In places, most likely on the northeast side of the country, brief rains are expected, thunderstorms are possible. Wind southeast, south, 6-11 m / s. The lowest temperature is 10 to 15 degrees. On September 3 it will be cloudy. It will play for a while. Wind south, southwest, 6-11 m / s. The highest temperature is 17-22 degrees.
