According to him, even before September 1, the city is experiencing an annual increase in traffic, with residents returning after the holidays. This year, the increase in flows is particularly pronounced due to the reduced permeability of the transport arteries during repair and reconstruction work.

More difficult for newcomer students, less familiar with the city streets. To anticipate potential problems, representatives of the Kaunas City Municipality named the main places where the most important works are currently being continued.

Important traffic restrictions
Drivers should pay special attention when planning trips to the city center. On Kęstučio Street, both the road and sidewalks are being maintained, and works are underway to install bicycle and pedestrian paths. The traffic in this section is now really complicated and slower, so it would be better to choose an alternative route: travel down King Mindaugas Avenue.
In addition, the works on L. Sapiegos street are nearing completion: the paving of the street is approaching, so the access of cars is restricted and the pedestrian crossing from Laisvės street to K. Laisvės alley is significantly more difficult.
Traffic is also closed on P. Kalpoko Street. The renovation of the emergency viaduct on Žemaičių street is underway. The old structure of the building will be demolished and rebuilt.
Work is gaining momentum
The longest street in Kaunas, Taikos Avenue, will receive almost the biggest changes. Complex maintenance works are currently being carried out: the lighting and underground networks are being renewed and the supports of the contact trolleybus network are replaced. cars can move more freely now, but in the rest of Pramonės ave. until traffic on Savanorių Avenue remains restricted, there may be congestion.
Intensive repairs are also taking place on the streets of Tvirtovės Alley: curbs are being renovated, manhole covers are being replaced. Traffic is not a restriction, but passing conditions are somewhat more difficult.
The industrial outlook, which has been largely neglected for decades, is finally changing as well. Currently, sidewalks are being renovated on the Urmas side of the commercial city, and a new bike lane and sidewalk are being built across the street. The traffic doesn’t stop, but the journey can take longer due to the work going on around you.
The wrong old sidewalk on King Mindaugas Avenue also took its turn. Renovation works have restricted car parking on one side of the street.
Sidewalks are also being replaced by new ones on A. Mackevičiaus street, from Birštono str. to Owl Hill.
The March 11th street is also being revived. There, the road has already been fundamentally renovated, and the preparation of sidewalks and bike paths has gained momentum. In the section of Savanorių ave. to Taikos ave. traffic is allowed, but there may be interference.
More than 30 km are being repaired
Currently, the length of the streets being rebuilt in Kaunas is more than 30 km. Most of the works, the revision of Pramonės Avenue, Kęstučio and L. Sapiegos streets, are scheduled to be completed this year.
A recently reconstructed viaduct is scheduled to open in Žaliakalnis, on P. Kalpoko Street, in December this year.
Peace Avenue is expected to completely renovate the roadway this year and complete the sidewalks and the bike and pedestrian path early next year.
With the start of the new school year and increased car traffic, drivers are encouraged to choose alternate routes. Otherwise, when planning a driving route, it is important to pay attention to the road works in progress and to anticipate a longer travel time than usual.
