According to the company, within four days from Sunday the planned repair work will be carried out and an attempt will be made to understand and solve the problem of bad odors emanating from the factory.

The company states that the suspension and duration of the activities has been previously agreed with the Klaipedos Vanduo company, with which it plans to sign a new wastewater treatment contract next week.

“In order to be able to cooperate continuously and not have to stop the reception of Grigeo Klaipėda’s wastewater in the Klaipėdos vanduo networks, the company must not exceed the pollution indicators provided for in the temporary agreement, as our facilities are not adapted to treat such pollution and industrial wastewater. Therefore, we constantly monitor the amount of industrial wastewater and the pollution of AB Grigeo Klaipėda “, Benitas Jonikas, director of Klaipėdos Vanduo, is quoted in the report.

Tomas Eikinas, director of the cardboard production company, said that the problems of unpleasant odors emanating from the factory and large amounts of wastewater are interrelated, they require sustainable solutions: adapt a long-term odor prevention program and start the primary wastewater treatment in Dumpiai.

“We have two challenges that are directly dependent on each other: wastewater pollution and unpleasant odors. To reduce pollution so that Klaipėdos Vanduo does not stop receiving wastewater, we changed the production process, which led to unpleasant odors. To combat odors and get back to the old rhythm, we are once again exceeding the wastewater pollution standards, “said the head of Grigeo Klaipėda.

According to him, the problem of the unpleasant smell will be solved by the foreign partner company Buckman, which has prepared a program to determine the causes of the smell adapted to Grigeo Klaipėda. The implementation of the program will take three days to complete the research and analysis.

“Once we have purchased all the necessary laboratory materials, the staff is ready to carry out the planned work, foreign consultants will also come,” said T. Eikin.

The public and residents of Klaipėda constantly complain about bad smells in the city and have recently named Grigeo Klaipėda as one of the main culprits.
