According to the police and local media, some 300 people took to the streets of Malmö to protest.

Police spokesman Rickard Lundqvist told the Expressen newspaper that the demonstration was related to an incident on the same day that protesters burned a copy of an Islamic holy book.

Rasmus Paludan, leader of the Danish far-right party Stram Kurs, was supposed to speak at the event, but the Swedish authorities have barred him from entering the country for two years. Subsequently, a Danish politician was arrested near Malmö.

“We suspect that he would break the law in Sweden,” Calle Persson, a Malle police spokesman, told AFP.

“There was also the risk that their behavior … would pose a threat to society,” he added.

Paludan supporters, however, organized a campaign in which three people were arrested for inciting racial hatred.

A Danish politician later wrote on Facebook: “Sent from Sweden, banned from visiting for two years. And rapists and murderers are always welcome! “

Last year, Paludan drew media attention when he burned the Koran wrapped in pork bacon, the meat that the holy book prohibits Muslims from eating.
