I knew I would not pass the exam
Mathematics was also included in the examination program of Povilas de Šiauliai, who graduated from the school this year. Although this state test was important to the boy just because of the opportunity to study for free at the university, it was disappointing to learn that the evaluation was negative.
“I was never a mathematician and I took the test just for the opportunity to study for free. I knew that if I passed the exam, I would only go through great success, ”the graduate shares his post-exam mood.

Povilas says that he feels more sorry not for himself, but for those students who will not be able to study in the programs of their dreams because they did not pass the exam: “When I found out that I did not pass the exam, I did not bother, I knew that he probably wouldn’t approve. It was more difficult to listen to the stories of friends that while other tests maintained high scores, mathematics changed its basis to pursue their dreams.
The teacher said: “There is little chance that you will be in the exam”
Povilas has been studying mathematics in grade A since the tenth grade, but feeling difficult, she moved to the lower level B in the second semester of twelfth grade.
“While I was studying mathematics at level A, the teacher always encouraged and motivated me, but when I began to delve into more difficult subjects, I felt that I could not do it,” says the Šiauliai resident. The interviewee adds that when she started studying the subject at level B, she was not motivated by the teacher, and at the same time she said: “There are not many opportunities in the exam.”
Although he did not pass the exam, Povilas hopes to join where he wants: “Despite this failure, my competitive score is high.
Teacher: “Modern children are lazy to learn”
Mathematics teacher Aušra, who has worked at the school for almost thirty years, believes that this year’s massive failure to pass the exam was due to various reasons.
“First of all, there are gaps in the education system. I think it was influenced by the differentiation of students in courses A and B. In the past, subject B was chosen by those students who did not think to take the math exam, but now students are choosing subject B to have a better annual grade and to be able to take the exam ”, explains the teacher. In your opinion, a student who has chosen course B should not take the exam.
“It is enough for a student to pass the exam to obtain ten points, but many times due to poor results the poster is lowered to nine”, says the specialist, adding that the exam contains around 40 percent of the tasks assigned to course B .
On the other hand, poor learning outcomes are also compounded by poor attitudes of students.
“The students are unmotivated. They choose course A, but don’t try at all because they know they can take the exam with up to two, they often say, “I will try to take the exam, who will ban me?” And they are right, there are no prohibitions, “says Professor Aušra.

And who could motivate the student? “Encouraging a student to deepen their knowledge of mathematics is hard black work. Parents must be helped by their parents: they can support the student and explain to him that the results depend only on the wishes and efforts of the child, and the teacher is just a helper who will always help, ”says the interlocutor.
“It just came to our knowledge then. In the past, working with twelfth graders and preparing for the exam, I didn’t have time to prepare assignments, students solved them in large quantities and spent a lot of time preparing. And now you can. preparing the tasks as much as you want, it is difficult for the student to offer them ”, points out a specialist who has worked with children for several decades.
It is said that this year’s exam was no more difficult
Although a significant number of graduates did not pass the math exam this year, Professor Aušra does not believe that it was more difficult than the previous exams.

“It just came to our knowledge then. There was a lot of text that needed to be processed, and children used to solve standard tasks, seeing a lot of text, they start to get confused, to get nervous. Graduates also complained about the lack of time for resolution of problems that require proving justified and probability problems. It really takes a long time to solve them and move them to the draft, “says Aušra.
The professor pointed out that the fact that the mathematics exam is compulsory in order to obtain a free place in the university has no flaws: “Learning mathematics and getting the minimum points on the exam to pass the exam is really possible. Mathematics develops logical thinking. Furthermore, a person with higher education must have knowledge. “
