This year, VW introduced the eighth generation Golf with digital interior and high-end technologies in Lithuania. The Auto Bild Lietuva team not only tested the new Golf, but also introduced the young man to his relative from the past.
Changed “face”
Probably not everyone will like the face of the new Golf. Visually, the VW maker actually goes the other way – giving up the entire beloved image and opting for the sharp-corner image. For example, the front is as low as sniffing asphalt – new LED lights make it possible.
The proportions have also changed. The line of the window rises, for the first time the Golf looks wedge-shaped. The back is correspondingly high; after all, it is suitable for aerodynamics, which is now 0.275 cw, so it must meet the highest requirements.
Inner revolution
Golf said goodbye to the analog devices and switches on the dash. In front of the steering wheel there are only digital devices (10.25-inch screen), the basic version differs from the high-quality versions only in functionality and processing speed. There’s an 8.25-inch screen in the middle as standard, and a 10-inch screen is available at an additional cost.
VW has been working on the dash control concept for a long time. The result of this work is this: whoever can control a smartphone will easily understand the control of the Golf board. Possible control by voice command or simple touch of the screen. VW manufacturers will also send the car key to retirement in the future. The Golf can be unlocked with a smartphone and you don’t even need an ignition key to start the car.
Focus on efficiency and cleanliness.
Engine development has focused on efficiency (up to 17 percent less fuel consumption) and cleanliness (up to 80 percent less NOx in diesel engines), which is more important to the Volkswagen Group than to other automakers to regain customer confidence, which has fluctuated significantly due to emissions. gas scandal
The new Golf is the first Volkswagen to choose between five hybrid variants: three lightweight hybrids (called eTSIs) with 110, 130 and 150 hp with a 48-volt internal combustion engine, and two Pluggable versions (eHybrid) that generate 204 and 245 hp.
There are also two variants of diesel engines: two 115-hp four-cylinder four-cylinder, which with the new AdBlue system are not only cleaner, but also save 17 percent on fuel. Later, as VW promised, more engines with more than 300 hp are expected. Which means that the GTI and Golf R also have a future.
