A revised tender for the purchase of Vilnius’ own e-ticket system is scheduled to be announced this fall after evaluating feedback from suppliers. It will consist of two parts: smart integrated payment platform installation and maintenance services and contactless payment card payment services. It is an international competition: all suppliers that develop innovative solutions of this type will be invited to submit proposals, according to a press release.

“Progressive and open Vilnius, which has renewed and continues to renew its public transport fleet, also needs a much more modern and convenient electronic ticketing system. We were looking for a provider with whom we would create a new generation system, which would focus not only on ticketing, but also on other services. We want it to offer citizens as much flexibility as possible and make payment for public transport rides clear and fast for both Vilnius residents and city guests, ”says Modesta Gusarovienė, director of SĮ” Įimoimo paslaugos ” .

M. Gusarovienė adds that the purpose of the announced preliminary market consultations is to inform potential suppliers about the acquisitions, allow time to familiarize themselves with them, and thus prepare the acquisitions even more effectively. In addition, the company awaits comments and recommendations from market participants, relevant institutions and independent experts on the prepared procurement documents, and meetings with suppliers will be arranged if necessary.

The estimated value of the project is 8 million. EUR, to be financed with funds from the Transport Services Association. The objective is also to partially use the funds of the European Union Operational Fund Investment Program for 2014-2020.

Both e-ticket system purchases are scheduled to be announced this fall. After the implementation and development works, it is planned to introduce the new electronic ticket system during 2022.

What are the benefits and innovations for passengers?

The new electronic ticketing system will allow passengers to use the most convenient ticketing medium of their choice without having to stick to a specific card or device. It can be a contactless payment card, a student or student card, an identity card, a Vilnius card, mobile apps or other solutions. The technical measures will make it possible to record the specific duration of the trip and apply the optimal price for the trip by public transport.

Tickets and other services will be linked to a personalized passenger account and not to a specific medium. In addition, the new system will provide more efficient and convenient public transport control solutions. The platform is expected to integrate not only public transport billing, but also other city services, and passengers will be able to purchase joint ticket packages for various city services.
