“Prosecutors from the Public Interest Protection Division of the Attorney General’s Office have instructed the Ministry of Transport and Communications to decide on the application of measures to eliminate the violations of the law identified when funds were illegally allocated for the repair of the Šklėriai-Aluona highway, “says the report.
It was decided to apply this measure after examining the statement of the members of the conservative faction of the Seimas on the funds allocated for the repair of roads by order of Minister Jaroslav Narkevičius on June 17, announced the Attorney General’s Office.
According to her, the Highway Administration had not submitted an application to finance the repair of this highway.
Currently, the legislation does not allow municipalities or the Ministry of Transport to submit applications for the repair of roads of state importance and make decisions about their method. This is the competence of the Highway Administration, but its recommendations on the allocation of funds for the repair of the Šklėriai-Aluona highway have not been taken into account, says the prosecutor’s office.
The representative of the Minister of Transport and Communications, Aldona Grinienė, promised BNS to send a comment on Monday, as the Minister is on vacation this week.
As explained by the representatives of the Attorney General’s Office before the BNS, the withdrawal of the funds illegally allocated within a period of 20 working days would have legal consequences and would not be the basis for any investigation.
The one kilometer gravel road to the Aluona asphalt project, as the former head of the BNS Highway Administration Vitalijus Andrejevas said, was not prepared (its transfer was negotiated with the Trakai district municipality) only after approval from the council, the road could enter the gravel road asphalt program.
Management told BNS this week that it was still awaiting a decision from the city council on the road.
According to Vice Minister of Transport and Communications Virgaudas Puodžiukas, the road to Aluona is believed to be paved by the end of November and, if there is no speculation, the funds will be redistributed to other objects.
Last week, J. Narkevičius canceled almost 700 thousand. EUR 400,000 was allocated for the repair of two state roads in the Šalčininkai district, for a 2.4 km long section through the town of Dainava. and a 1.7 km long highway through the city of Turgeliai – 271 thousand. euros.
Members of the conservative Seimas faction petitioned prosecutors for funds for the three roads. All of them were not included in the application of the Highway Administration because they are not a priority.
The funds are distributed from 150 million. an additional money package for roads, which the government plans to revive the country’s economy after the crisis.
The Trakai district is the electoral district of J. Narkevičius, and in the council of Šalčininkai, as well as in the council of the Vilnius district, the Union of Electoral Action of Christian Families of Lithuanian Poles, which has delegated to the minister in the Government has a majority.
