Kelmė District Mayor Accused of Bribery

During the investigation, STT officials established that the mayor of the Kelmė district municipality could have demanded a bribe of 10,000 euros from another person for favoritism in the implementation of a project to improve public space in one of the mentioned municipalities .

V.Andrulis was arrested by STT officials on May 19 of this year, when he received a part of the bribe possibly demanded from the director of the company executing the project: 5,000 euros.

According to Andrej Mirnyj, prosecutor in the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Šiauliai Regional Prosecutor’s Office, which led the pre-trial investigation, the accused admits his guilt. At the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, on May 21, the Šiauliai District Court removed V. Anddrulis from the post of mayor for 6 months.

The Penal Code for bribery cases (article 225 (1)) provides for a fine or arrest or imprisonment of up to five years.

The criminal case was transferred to the Kelmė Chamber of the Šiauliai District Court.
