The balcony of an apartment building in Lazdynai, Vilnius, will fall on Friday, demonstrating that some houses built during the Soviet era are not completely safe. The capital city municipality intends to carry out additional inspections to ensure that the situation does not repeat itself.
Mindaugas Pakalnis, the chief architect of Vilnius, spoke about this to LRT Radio on Monday.

Those welds are not as strong a form of bond as any bond when bonding bridges. According to him, specialists on the spot told him that the glazing on the room’s balcony could accumulate too much moisture, which affected the building’s structures.

According to the chief architect of the capital municipality, the specialists of the municipality intend to carry out more inspections after the event. However, according to him, the greatest responsibility in this case lies with the owners of the building and apartment.

We have already spoken today with the companies in charge of the building. They confirmed that inspections would be carried out in the event of such an event. On the other hand, we must understand that access to the building, the operation of the building is primarily a matter for the owner himself, emphasized M. Pakalnis.
The balcony of the 15th apartment building in Lazdynai, on Architekt Street, went up to zero and fell on Friday, around 5 p.m. When it fell, it damaged the lower balcony, the victim was unhappy.
According to M. Pakalnis, in this case, the owner of the apartment himself had previously contacted the community regarding the observed defect and the cracked construction.
In this case, says Vilnius’ chief architect, the municipality could consider the building unusable and its inhabitants would be evicted. However, as M. Pakalnis points out, the system does not work as well, because the house is not primarily owned by the municipality, but by private owners.
