K. Kaukas came from the Alytus district in 1955. He graduated from Vilnius University with a degree in journalism. He worked in the editorial office of the newspaper “Tiesa”, in the ELTA agency, later – in newspapers in the districts of Pabradė and Tauragė.
Later he worked on Lithuanian television and radio. he was the editor of Klaipėda Passenger, worked in the editorial offices of Klaipėda newspapers.
Since 1980 Member of the Union of Writers of Lithuania.
He wrote collections of satirical stories, columns, grotesques, humors, parodies, plays, short stories, miniatures, whose main object of representation is a Soviet and residential civil servant, various social and domestic ills; characterized by a way of writing close to journalism.
One of the first in Lithuanian literature began to write about the problems of drug addiction, describing the fate of a young self-taught artist and drug addict and his friends.
He published three books of documentary descriptions about the tragic fates of the people of Lithuania Minor, compiled a book “Sąjūdis in Klaipėda”, a journalistic book on the 20th anniversary of Sąjūdis, etc., and helped create the “Encyclopedia of Lithuania Minor”.
The writer welcomed the year of independence while actively working in the Sąjūdis.
1989 K. Kaukas received the Ieva Simonaitytė literary award.
