“As we all see in this case, they are 100 percent. sure is not. They were built about 50 years ago and even more. Of course, those buildings must be properly maintained. The joints between their plates are welded (…) These joints are often subject to corrosion due to improper maintenance of the building. In this case, those connections were broken, “M. Pakalnis told LRT radio on Saturday.

“It is a very strong signal that it is time to be especially concerned about the maintenance of those buildings, because we have a lot of those buildings,” he added.

According to M. Pakalnis, in this case the greatest responsibility lies with the owners of buildings and apartments.

“Already today we speak with our people who are in charge of building maintenance. They confirmed that in the event of such an event, such inspections would be carried out. On the other hand, we have to understand that the maintenance of the building, the operation of the building is first and foremost a matter for the owner himself, ”emphasized the Chief Architect of Vilnius.

The balcony of the fifteenth floor of an apartment building on Architektų Street broke and fell on Friday around 4.50 p.m. As it fell, it damaged the balconies on the lower floors.

People did not suffer in the incident.
