“Searching. Both the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) and the police are conducting a search, but it has not been found yet,” Asta Šuminienė, a representative of the Utena County Police, told BNS on Friday.

When asked if it is possible that the fugitive patient is no longer in Lithuania, A.Šuminienė stated that “all versions are being investigated, they are all being considered”, but so far the police do not have precise data.

SBGS representative Rokas Pukinskas also stated that he had no knowledge.

The Ignalina District Municipality announced Thursday that an Afghan-infected Afghan had escaped from isolation facilities.

As the representative of the municipality Artūras Česliokas informed BNS that day, the foreigner was isolated in these facilities for almost a month.

The Afghan, along with three others, was arrested in early July after illegally crossing the state border with Belarus. They were tested for coronavirus, but the disease was only confirmed in one Afghan.

According to A. Česliokas, this week a foreigner was retested for coronavirus, who is also positive.

The representative of the municipality considered that the illegal escape could have taken place because Lithuania was not the objective of his trip.

Among other things, according to SBGS, the Afghan had applied for asylum.

Residents are warned to be careful, they are asked to report a suspicious person to the police.

The Penal Code provides for a fine, restriction of freedom, arrest or imprisonment of up to one year for violating the rules to combat epidemics or communicable diseases, which carries the risk of another person being infected with a dangerous or particularly dangerous communicable disease.
