It was for us that we were looking for amber together with a German group that we had a stormy day. While we were standing with our jackets on the shore, the guide Igor dived into the water and tried to catch the marine amber with a sieve.
On the shore, our group not only observed the entire process, but also, among the pebbles, polished sticks and seaweed, we looked for discarded amber. After a few minutes, Igor returns with a sieve full of pebbles, one of which is amber in color.
And finally, on the last try, we found a fairly large piece that goes to the tour participant, German Utah.

When is it better to look for amber?

And if you want to make sure your souvenir vendor hasn’t cheated, the guide suggests tossing the stone into salty water.
“Amber floats in salt water,” he said.

If you decide to look only for amber, the guide suggests taking a grid and looking for darker waves and stretches of beach and seagulls. In places where sea sticks and algae have been dumped on shore, there is a greater chance of finding this stone.
Where should I look for amber? I. Osnač suggests looking for it in the Šventoji section towards Latvia, in the territory of the Regional Maritime Park, in Melnrage and in the Curonian Spit.
