According to Alina Velykienė, a member of the faction of the Liberal Movement, 12 members of the opposition council, who have signed the initiative to hold an extraordinary council meeting, express their distrust of A. Barbšiu, who oversees the areas of transport and the economy. It will be asked to be held in September when the politicians return from vacation.

“” The arguments are incompetence, lack of understanding of the situation, inability to represent, etc. The end point was at the Finance and Economy Committee, when the deputy mayor in charge of certain projects said that there was no need to divert south from the city of Klaipeda and that this was not a priority. It is a misunderstanding, because the trucks circulate around the city, they make noise, and the vice mayor says that there is no need, “he said.

More than half of the votes of the council members are necessary for the removal of the vice mayor, at least 16 of 31.

A. Barbšys himself sees this as an attack on the TS-LKD faction.

“I see the initiative as a political action by the opposition and because we began to demand transparency in the companies, results in the municipal public institutions, we felt an attack and that attack spread to me and to our other two committee chairs, our representatives. This It is a joint attack on TS-LKD. There really are no serious reasons, there was nothing to write, apparently something was needed, “he told BNS.

In addition, four faction members, Elida Mantulova, Vytis Radvila, Vaida Raugelė and Judita Simonavičiūtė, announced their resignation from the V. Grubliauskas electoral committee at the council meeting on Thursday. They established a separate faction “For Klaipeda’s Future”. After the withdrawal of these politicians, four members remained in the V. Grrubliauskas faction.

BNS E. Mantulova said that despite the disagreements, she will continue to work with her colleagues in support of the coalition program. According to her, the separated members of the council are not satisfied with the slow implementation of the coalition program, as well as with the lack of unanimity on some issues, for example, on the responsibility of the managers of Klaipeda University Hospital in the fight against coronavirus. She says that “the question of a leader must be raised in a peaceful situation when there is no emergency.”

However, he says that so far he does not support the opposition’s initiative to distrust the deputy mayor, since he lacks clear motives and sees it as a “political spectacle”.

“If we were to vote today, I would not support questioning unless the opposition could present strong arguments as to why it should be done,” he said.

Currently, Klaipeda’s governors, including the new faction, have 17 politicians, eight representatives who have joined the council with the mayor’s committee, seven conservatives, and two representatives from the Party Center. There are 14 politicians working in the opposition.
