“It just caught our eye then. We will be there before autumn,” A. Stančikas told the Plungė newspaper quite optimistically, without hiding that the fire caused his family about 150,000. loss of euros.

According to Mykolas Pronckus, head of the Plungė Fire and Rescue Service, the initial report was that smoke was coming out of a wooden farm in Žlibinai, Malūno Street where hay bales are kept. “When we arrived, a huge barn with an area of 1,500 square meters was already covered in open flames. Knowing that we would not normally deal with hay burning, we asked for reinforcement. Therefore, up to six tankers from Plungė, Žlibinai, Žarėnai, Alsėdžiai, Rietavas and Telšiai worked at the site of the fire, ”said the chief.

The fire that broke out before noon on Thursday was extinguished only on Friday morning. And that means that firefighters worked at the fire station all night. “The building was completely burned. For the time being, the fire has been liquidated, but we are pouring hay with water so that it does not rain elsewhere, “said M. Pronckus on Friday morning.

According to the fire chief, the barn caught fire, but it was fortunate that at least the nearby grain warehouse (about 20 meters away) had been rescued, there was already a fire in it. In addition to this, firefighters also protected the mechanical workshop building, which was 40 meters away, from the flames. Where did the fire come from? According to M. Ponckus, it was a spontaneous ignition when the hay was turned.

When asked about the disaster, Seimas member A. Stančikas, who transferred his powers as the farm owner to his oldest son, Marija, said: “Yes, there will be little happiness when it happens, but everything happens in life. It remains to be glad that only properties, not people, have suffered here. “

The first employees of the Žlibinai agricultural company and the manager Romutis Mažrimas felt the suspicious odor. At first they thought something was burning on their premises, but when they came out they saw smoke coming out of the barn. “They immediately informed me, and I informed the fire department. Of course, we immediately rushed to the fire. And maybe it was our fault: as soon as we moved the scrolls, the fire broke out so much that after 30 seconds the entire building was covered in Open flames. This was captured by our cameras. When firefighters arrived, they were no longer able to save the building, “said the MP.

According to A. Stančikas, the burned barn belonged to four shareholders. The main one is his son Marijus Stančikas. Hay rolls – three owners, only others – several dozen, and Stančikai – several hundreds. The total damage, according to A. Stančikas, can reach around 150 thousand euros. Was the property insured? “Since the son has been buying shares, purchase and sale procedures have been carried out, the building has not been legalized and no one prohibits the illegal one.” So all the losses fall on our own shoulders, “explained the Seimas member.

The situation is sad, but there is something to be happy about: firefighters managed to save the grain warehouse next to the barn, which belongs to ŽŪB Minija. Because if the firefighters had been at least a little late, or if the fire had started at night and no one had noticed in time, both buildings would have been burned. After all, there was already a “fire” in the warehouse, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters. It is true that the warehouse is currently empty: last year’s grain has just been removed and the new harvest has not yet been delivered. Therefore, the company would also have suffered losses.

When asked what he thought the fire was about, A. Stančikas said: “There are all kinds of suspicions, except of course the arson. Maybe it’s spontaneous ignition, but that’s questionable. Because the first hay was stacked in the place where there is a fireplace, which was brought in May. So it was a long time, so I didn’t have to light more. But everything happens. There may be another reason: the day before the other hay was transported to that barn, so it was possible that some spark would jump from the tractor into the hay and break down over time. ”

As we mentioned, the firefighting work lasted most of the day. After all, burning twisted hay is the same as burning peat: it won’t extinguish it by flooding it with water. Each roll had to be disassembled and shaken. So not only firefighters but also porters were working on the fire overnight.

“We are glad that the harvest is over and now we will have to start again, we will go to the atoll.” We will cut until fall. It’s a shame that time is running out, after all, the harvest begins, “A Stančikas shared his thoughts.

After this fire, the Stančikai farm was left without forage.
