According to the Kaunas municipality’s comment to the media, the Kaunas Petrašiūnai Cemetery is considered in itself a place of eternal rest for distinguished people.
“The so-called pantheon served the graves of the previous generation of representatives of art, culture, clergy, famous public figures and other worthy personalities of the city. For almost five years, there have been no burials in this part of the cemetery.
In each case, the requests of the relatives of the deceased or the community are taken into account. We strive to implement them every time, because it is the duty of the city to pay due respect to the memory of the people who are important to the city.
This time, a cemetery site was chosen in the picturesque Petrašiūnai cemetery space, right next to the pantheon, among other prominent people who were lying here to rest forever, ”the report read.
How 15 minutes Ričardas Čėsna, head of the Kapinių Supervision company said, the burial place was discussed with a member of the O. Daugelis family, and it suited him.
“Then I realized that such questions were arising. Yes, the pantheon is not buried, it is completely full. O. Many will be buried next to the pantheon. By the way, we call this place the little pantheon,” said R. Česna.
O.Daugelis was a famous Lithuanian art historian and museologist. He directed the National Museum of Art M.K. Čiurlionis from 1992 to 2019.
According to the Lithuanian Universal Encyclopedia, the main areas of his research were the Čiurlionis National Art Museum and the 19th century. – XX a. History of the Lithuanian art collections. O. Daugelis published articles on the work of M. K. Čiurlionis, the Lithuanian cultural heritage and foreign art. Prepared exhibitions, compiled catalogs.
O. Daugelis received state awards from Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Belgium and the Netherlands. 2015 was awarded the highest award from the Ministry of Culture: the Badge of Honor “Bring your light and believe”.
O. Many, 64, died on July 19, after a serious illness.
