– When he arrived at Real in 2017, Jonas Mačiulis was a friend of his team. What do you remember about him?

– He greeted me with open arms. He’s a great guy and a great basketball player. I’m still in contact with him. Jonas was the first in the team to call me Edy Žirkliarankis (from the movie Edvardas Žirkliarankis – aut.).

John in Madrid helped me a lot. I could only comment on him with a good word.

– Where would you rank Lukas Lekavičius among the fastest defenders in the Euroleague and why is he so difficult to catch?

– His speed and sharpness in the square is impressive. When blocking pitches, timing is of the essence. You have to be quick and read the situation well to see his movement and catch him in a block.

We have to wait with him until the last second what he will do: we will pass the ball. Racing with Lekavičius is never a good decision.

– How did the Clásico change between Real and Barcelona from a tactical point of view, when Šarūnas Jasikevičius took command of the opponents?

– You know, not much has changed. El Clásico remains the same, only against a different team. I know Shar is a former Barcelona star and a good coach. However, I don’t see any change in El Clásico in any way.

– Basketball scouts have accidentally discovered you working on a 17 in Cape Verde. You’ve never seen a basketball game on TV before, so I’m sure that during your 11-year professional career, each season is like a great lesson for you. Who was the best teacher you had in Madrid during those years?

– Everybody. Lasso, the entire coaching staff, the club’s coaching staff … But I would probably highlight assistant Lolo Calin. He was the first to introduce himself to me to explain Real’s game plan, tactics and everything else. He helped me with individual training to keep improving my game. Everyone here helps me a lot, but Lolo is the one who spends the most time.

– Up to 10 Real Madrid players start together for the fourth consecutive season. How would a united and familiar team like Real greet you if you reach the first three points of your career?

– Now I really don’t remember when I hit those 3s (5 during my Madrid career), but they really had to be the last seconds of attack time. I hope to be right one day. Anyway, Coach Laso keeps insisting that if I’m sure I can shoot a 3, I can.
