4 reasons why a planned flight can even end at a police station

In a press release, Lithuanian airports recall four examples of passenger misconduct, which can lead to a planned visit or even a visit to a police station.

1. Don’t wear masks at the airport

The global pandemic has also dictated the rules of the new reality in many public places, so currently the most relevant and necessary requirement for passengers is to wear masks both at the airport and on the plane. If the airport aviation security personnel notice that you are not wearing or wearing a mask incorrectly, you will be asked to pay attention to this. If you refuse to comply with the request, you may be accompanied from the airport terminal in some cases, even with the help of police officers.

In most cases, when disobedient passengers who do not follow the rules established by the airport or the flight crew are turned over to the police, violation protocols are drawn up for them and liability is applied to them according to the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Lithuania. For example, a fine for the use or misuse of masks by individuals can range from a few hundred to fifteen hundred euros.

2. Transportation of weapons, sharp objects and other prohibited items

The category of items prohibited for air transport includes not only weapons or parts thereof (with certain exceptions when a weapons permit is available and the transport of checked baggage is subject to prior warning to the security professionals of the aviation), but also longer knives or other sharp objects for self-defense. balloons or electric shocks.

Before each flight, it is always a good idea to purchase insurance in advance and check the airline or airport website to see if the item meets aviation safety requirements as there may be more unexpected or forgotten rules on the prohibited items list.

3. Alcohol intoxication at the airport or airplane

It is also worth remembering that both at the airport and on the plane, serious alcohol intoxication is intolerable, especially when you do not comply with the safety recommendations for workers.

Passengers must consume alcohol before the flight very responsibly, as airline rules strictly instruct ground handling companies checking in and boarding passengers not to allow clearly intoxicated and disobeyed people .

4. Irresponsible behavior on board

Any other irresponsible behavior at the airport or on the plane – excessive alcohol consumption, attempting to smoke where it is prohibited, or being aggressive – almost guarantees that you will face the consequences and in some cases thousands of fines.

The policies of some airlines are so strict that you can be blacklisted for misconduct and never get back on that airline’s plane.

Usually in such cases, liability and fines are imposed on passengers in our country in accordance with the articles of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Lithuania, so the desire to “disobey instructions” may turn out very expensive for an inexperienced passenger.
