According to the department, the four men drove a car in violation of quarantine requirements and a police team warned them about the raid by environmentalists.
The violation was established by officials from the Panev Thežys Wildlife Protection Inspectorate in mid-January during a hunting control raid in the Ukmergė district.
When the environmentalists arrived at the planned inspection area and left the forest, their car was stopped by a police team.
“While this is common, this time it was strange because the police officers turned around and came back after the inspection,” the department said in a statement.
Soon, agents saw another car arrive, which, when stopped, revealed that four people were driving it without complying with the quarantine requirements.
Two of them are members of the Ukmergė District Hunting Club “Lėnas” who hunted that night, the other two are the Ukmergė District Police Officer EB and LJ, a lawyer living in Vilnius.
The men driving the car made no secret that a police team informed them of the raid by environmentalists.
An inspection of the trunk of the car revealed an illegally hunted male deer. The shot animal was not recorded in the hunting register, and officers who contacted the club president revealed that the limit in this hunting area had already been exhausted in early December, all club members were informed.
“The hunt did not follow not only the rules of hunting, but also the ethics of hunting, because the beast was killed with a short shot to the head, without paying attention to the fact that the trophy will be damaged,” say environmentalists.
Administrative misconduct protocols were drawn up for the four people regarding the transport of illegally hunted animals, and fines for this misdemeanor can run as high as 1.8 thousand. euros.

The environmentalists also passed data to the police about violations of quarantine requirements and contacted the Police Department’s Immunity Service regarding the allegedly illegal actions of the officers.
