The arrest took place on Sunday morning on the border with Belarus, near the town of Kalvalškės in the Švenčionys district. Border Guard Adutiškis agents from the SBGS Vilnius Border Team, including a dog handler with a dog, detained the migrants who had entered Lithuania illegally in the forest. It has a border with Belarus. The detainees had no documents and presented themselves as Afghan citizens.
Interrogations of detainees and identification of foreigners were carried out on Sunday. They will be tested for COVID-19.

As of Thursday, at the border with Belarus, SBGS officials detained a total of 75 illegal immigrants trying to enter Lithuania.
With the recent increase in the number of such cases, additional forces from the Public Security Service and the Riflemen’s Union are assisting border guards to control the border with Belarus. SBGS officers from other units are also assigned here and additional technical resources are assigned. The SBGS has also taken other measures to strengthen the security of the border with Belarus.
This year, more than 270 illegal immigrants, mostly Iraqi citizens, tried to enter Lithuania from Belarus. This figure is more than 3 times higher than in 2020.
