The contest participants offer compositions for the public space near Ona Šimaitės street, where there is currently a monumental stone built with funds from the Lithuanian Jewish community (Litvak). Organizers hope to find an artistic solution that becomes a real cultural phenomenon that honors and perpetuates all the brave and selfless people who saved Jews during the Nazi occupation.
The works submitted to the competition will be evaluated by an international commission of experts: Chief Architect of the City Mindaugas Pakalnis (President of the Commission), Faina Kukliansky, President of the Lithuanian Jewish Community (Litvak), Esther Shalev-Gerz, artist born in Vilnius living in Paris, sculptor, Petras artist, sculptor Žilvinas Landzbergas, director of the Museum of the City of Vilnius Rasa Antanavičiūtė.
The first place winner of the tender will enter into a procurement contract with the authorized contracting authority for the implementation of the proposed project idea. The prizes will be awarded to the three best developers: the first place winner will receive 5,000 euros, the second – 3,000 euros, the third – 2,000 euros.
The maximum estimated budget for the design and construction services of the monument and the plot and access arrangements is a maximum of 300,000 EUR (VAT included). This amount includes all environmental management and other costs related to the construction of the facility. € 250,000 goes to the sculptor’s design and work, and the remaining € 50,000 goes to the installation of accesses to the monument, which will be the subject of another public procurement based on a project drawn up by the current winner.
The contest is organized by the Ministry of Culture together with the municipality, and the conditions were prepared by the Lithuanian Research Center on Genocide and Resistance, the Vilnius Gaon State Jewish Museum and the Lithuanian Jewish Community (Litvak), Vilnius – Lithuanian Jerusalem Jewish Community, Government of the Republic of Lithuania, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lithuanian Art Museum The public procurement conditions for the competition were prepared in collaboration with the representatives of the aforementioned institutions and the representatives of the Union of Lithuanian Architects and the Lithuanian Artists Union.
