Rusne – Silute (a 15 km)

It’s hard to believe that it seems that moving so fast we have already reached Lithuania Minor, and the last days of the march through Lithuania seem to be melting away. Today, before going on a day trip, we still decided to go around beautiful Rusnė, thus at least slightly extending the day’s route, to Šilutė only 10 kilometers, which now amounts to an easy hike for us.

We walk on the Rusnė Monkey Bridge, admiring the autumnal banks of Pakalnė Stream, but our own legs are moving at full speed; We haven’t been able to go slow for a long time. When we got to Rusnė beach, we looked at other coasts: here the island of Rusnė of the Atmata and Skirvytė rivers is separated from the mainland of Lithuania and the Kaliningrad region. The view is impressive and simply incredible: the coasts of the island are washed by these two rivers almost like the sea, and here is the forest on the other shore: it is no longer Lithuania.

We are speeding up behind the Rusnė bridge; it’s time to start taking it seriously. Halfway to Šilutė, Nerijus calls and announces that he will come to us, take the garbage, which we have collected in just two bags, and bring a surprise together. Together we are considering what it could be, maybe something sweet from Šilutė, or maybe more crap …

Nerius leaves the white Nissan not alone. Egidijus, who once marched with us, was with him. It’s fun that people don’t forget the impressions they’ve had here and keep connecting over and over again. Our augmented team arrives in Šilutė. We’re glad we picked up some trash, and also that we won’t have to sort it today; We will do it tomorrow during the event together with the citizens.

Although we have a lot of free time, it passes quickly – dinner, communication and conversations last until the evening, until the eyes and legs begin to close – to ask for a well-deserved rest.

Hiker Dovilė Jadenkutė shared her impressions of the day. We thank the Vocational Training Center for the evening.
