Violeta Bartušienė, prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Šiauliai Regional Prosecutor’s Office, handed over a criminal case to the court, in which 4 people from Mazeikiai are accused of criminal acts related to the illegal possession of narcotics and substances psychotropic.
After conducting the pre-trial investigation, officers from the Telšiai County Police Chief Commissariat’s Organized Crime Investigation Division identified individuals who could distribute narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in January-April 2019. Convicted of various offenses, MG, 23, has used other people to distribute drugs, for which he is also charged with human trafficking.
During the judicial investigation, it was established that the accused offered to distribute drugs to an acquaintance, but the latter refused. Dissatisfied with the rejection of the offer, MG intimidated the victim by threatening to use violence against him and his family, hitting her and sending her threatening messages. The acquaintance had nowhere to retire, so he was recruited to distribute narcotic and psychotropic substances.
Data was collected that the recruited victim sold drugs and transferred the money raised by them to MG. According to the victim, the earned amount of about 10,000 euros was transferred to the recruiter within a few months.
In the case, charges were also brought against a 22-year-old from Mažeikiai who had purchased drugs from MG.
The buyer sold part of the narcotic and psychotropic substances to another 21-year-old defendant. The latter “treated” 2 underage girls with psychotropic substances.
The fourth defendant is a 38-year-old man from Mažeikiai who was previously convicted and bought cannabis for himself.
Three defendants admit to possessing narcotic and psychotropic substances. MG denies his guilt.
The Penal Code for improper possession of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for distribution provides for prison sentences of 2 to 8 years. For distribution to minors – from 3 to 12 years old. Trafficking in human beings is punishable by imprisonment of 2 to 10 years. Other crimes may be subject to less severe penalties.
The criminal case was transferred to the Šiauliai Regional Court, the Attorney General’s Office announced on Wednesday.
