About a month ago, Oculus announced that it was shrinking its VR headset portfolio by dropping support for Oculus Go to focus more on Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift S. But now, new photos have emerged depicting a revamped Oculus Quest with potentially a new set of lenses and a release date not too far off.
In a couple of Photos posted on Twitter From the established WalkingCat leak, we can see shots of what looks like an updated and optimized Oculus Quest along with a caption that says “September 15”. While Walking Cat does not explicitly mention if that date is supposed to mean an official announcement or launch dateIf necessary, it means Oculus could be preparing to launch a new VR headset in less than two months.
While the WalkingCat shot closely resembles typical press renderings, the device in the images is pretty close to another set of leaked photos posted today on Reddit. So while we can’t be 100% sure these photos are legitimate, seeing two different leak surfaces showing very similar designs adds an additional level of credibility.
Lined in white plastic, this revamped Oculus Quest appears to be an even sleeker, streamlined upgrade from the original Quest that was announced in Fall 2018. Scattered across the earphones are standard ports that include what appears to be a 3.5mm audio jack. and a USB-C port, along with slim vents for Quest’s built-in speakers.

However, what we can’t see in this updated Quest is a slider to adjust the interpupillary distance, which is generally used to help adjust the focus for users with different facial and eye structures. And when you combine the lack of an IPD slider with what look like slightly differently shaped lenses, that means the next Oculus search could feature a revamped optics that includes new lenses and perhaps even an improved display.
That being said, aside from being white instead of black, the drivers shown in the WalkingCat image They look very similar to existing Quest drivers, so not everything in the new Quest may be getting a full overhaul.
Unfortunately, we’re still lacking information on the price and availability of the new Quest, along with what kind of hardware will power the next Oculus VR headsets. But with Oculus having previously said that it’s looking “Double down on improving our offers for Quest and Rift” giving your current entry-level VR headsets a makeover It seems like a great way to deliver on that promise.
