Vehicles unsuitable for the purpose of use, such as reporting Grandeur and Genesis for livelihood in youth housing, were detected in the station area, where the Seoul Metropolitan Government in principle prohibits the possession of vehicles.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 4th that it has decided to strengthen the standards for vehicles registered in ‘Youth Housing in Station Area’ and to evict holders of non-conforming vehicles through a substantive investigation of registered vehicles.
As a result of a survey of a total of 6 youth homes in the station area and 2397 homes, the Seoul Metropolitan Government found 9 vehicles unsuitable for the purpose of use, including oversized vehicles (Grandeur, Genesis) and medium size (Carnival, Avante) among 17 registered vehicles. This is a problem that occurred because in the past, it was possible to register as a vehicle to live if it was for income activities regardless of the type of vehicle. The city of Seoul has announced that it will dispose of any detected non-conforming vehicles in late November and decided to vacate any violations.
Going forward, registered vehicle standards for youth housing in the station area will be strengthened. However, pre-registered vehicles are allowed for pregnant women and disabled people with reduced mobility.
By setting a new vehicle pricing standard that was previously unavailable, only vehicles under 24.6 million won can be registered. Additionally, vehicles for living are limited to cargo trucks and vans that are used to ship goods such as freight and courier, or to carry tools such as electricians and interior engineers. For two-wheelers, only vehicles 125cc or less are allowed for subsistence purposes, such as delivery or courier service, and for children with children, vehicles for infants under 6 years old who need to be accompanied by a tutor are limited.
Station Area Youth Housing is a business that provides convenient public transportation and comfortable living spaces for youth with substandard residential environments by developing a station area with metro stations and bus stops. However, vehicle registration has been allowed only for some residents who are indispensable to use vehicles, such as vehicles for children with disabilities, pregnant women or babies, vehicles for a living and motorcycles.
Seong-bo Kim, head of Seoul Housing and Architecture Headquarters, said: “From now on, Seoul will continue to monitor youth housing to make it a comfortable living space.”
