2.9 million doses … “Inoculation for 14 days as soon as possible”
According to Yonhap News, a truck loaded with the first vaccine at the pharmaceutical company Pfizer’s Portage, Michigan factory left the factory this morning.
Previously, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved emergency use of the Pfizer-Bioentech vaccine on Day 11, and the Vaccination Advisory Committee (AICP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Disease Prevention (CDC) made the decision to recommend it on the 12th.
Employees wearing masks at the factory began packing the first shipment with dry ice at 6:30 a.m.
At 8:29 am, three trucks loaded with vaccines left the factory while being escorted by security personnel in bulletproof vests in vans.
The factory’s first shipment of vaccines, loaded in 189 vaccine containers, will be transported across the United States by air on the 14th. Additional vaccines produced at this plant will be shipped on the afternoon and 14th of that day.
These first vaccines are delivered to 64 states and territories, major metropolitan areas, and five federal agencies. Regional amounts were assigned based on the adult population of each state.
The first vaccine distributed is an amount that can be administered to approximately 2.9 million people and, although it is a weekly decision, it is expected that priority will be given to healthcare workers, such as doctors and nurses, and to residents and the nursing home staff.
When the vaccine arrives at the vaccination site, it is expected that urgent vaccination will begin immediately from day 14.
FDA Director Steve Han appeared on CNN that day and said the vaccine could be administered for the first time on the 14th.
Montseff Slawy, head of vaccine development at the White House, told Fox News that 100 million Americans will be vaccinated by the first quarter of next year.
Vaccination in the United States is 11 months after the first confirmed case on January 20 and 9 months after the pandemic began in mid-March. The United States is one of the countries in which the spread of Corona 19 is very serious throughout the world, with 16 million infected and 300,000 deaths.
