On the 13th, police arrested a driver in his 30s who violated the center line while drunk and seriously injured an oncoming motorcycle deliveryman.
The Incheon Western Police Department announced that it had arrested Mr. A (38) on charges of dangerous driving and fleeing vehicles under the Weighted Penalties for Certain Offenses Act (Special Privileges Act). The Incheon District Court issued an order that read, “There is fear of fleeing,” after conducting questioning of the suspect before arresting Mr. A on the afternoon of that day.
He walked without saying anything when journalists asked him, “Why did you run away (after the drinking accident)?” And “Do you have something to say to the victim?”
Mr. A was drunk in the fourth lane of Wonchang-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon, on the 11th at about 4:25 am on the 11th.
In this accident, delivery worker B, whose left leg was amputated, was seriously injured and was taken to a nearby hospital for surgery. B is a delivery man belonging to a delivery agency, and it was investigated that he had an accident while riding a motorcycle after having dinner with his colleagues.
After the accident, Mr. A ran about 150 meters after the accident, but the vehicle’s tire broke and stopped. At the time of arrest, A’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.171%, which was the number of license cancellations. It was found that Mr. A had a history of drunk driving in the past.
The police applied for an arrest warrant applying the so-called ‘Yooon Chang-ho Law’ to Mr. A. The Yoon Chang-ho Law combines the revised Special Offers Law, which strengthens the punishment for drunk driving accidents, and the revised Road Traffic Law, which reinforces the standards for the suspension and cancellation of driver’s licenses.
In a police investigation, Mr. A stated: “I was drunk and I cannot remember (the situation at the time of the crime)” and “I did not escape after the accident, but I moved the vehicle to the shoulder.”
