The Washington Post (WP) resigns if Mark Meados, head of the United States White House Secretary, does not approve the emergency use of Pfizer’s new vaccine against coronavirus infection (Corona 19) within 11 days (local time) to Steven Han, Director of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). That day it was reported that he was pressured to write.
Earlier, the US media reported that the Meadows chief summoned Director Han to the White House on day 1 and accused him of “neglecting the approval of vaccines.”
WP’s report came today amid public pressure on Twitter from US President Donald Trump to approve the Pfizer vaccine as soon as the FDA said it was “a big, old, slow turtle.”
President Trump wrote: “Let’s get a damn vaccine out right now” and “Chief Han should stop playing games and save lives.”
The WP cited two sources who requested anonymity, saying pressure from President Trump and Chief Meadows pushed the FDA’s schedule from the morning of the 12th to the afternoon of the day.
The day before, the Vaccines and Biologicals Advisory Committee (VRBPAC), an expert advisory body to the FDA, recommended that Pfizer vaccines be approved for adults 16 years of age and older.
Accordingly, the FDA announced that it would promptly approve the emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine through a statement on behalf of Director Han and others.
The vaccine can be distributed once the FDA’s decision to approve emergency use is made. Subsequently, the advisory committee of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends vaccination, and when the CDC makes a final decision, vaccination begins.
President Trump recently argued that FDA deep states had delayed development of the vaccine to prevent his re-election when news of the vaccine development broke after his defeat in the US presidential election.
The WP also said that President Trump was upset by the news that Britain had started approving and vaccinating Pfizer vaccines before the United States.
