The fire in the Ulsan residential-commercial apartment complex was recorded in 13 hours.
The Ulsan Fire Department said the first visit was completed around 12:35 p.m. on the 9th, about 13 hours and 30 minutes after the fire broke out.
However, it seems that the flames will take time to completely extinguish due to the strong wind.
Earlier, until noon this day, due to the wind blowing from east to west, some flames remained and continued to spread from the 31st to the 33rd floor in the west.
The fire broke out in the Samhwan Art Nouveau apartment in Nam-gu, Ulsan, a 33-story building around 11 pm on the 8th of the previous day. It was a high-rise building and it was difficult to extinguish due to high winds. In particular, this building is 113m high, but there is only one elevated staircase that can go up to 55m in Ulsan, so it was necessary to receive a 70m elevated staircase from Busan. The place where the fire started is 12 stories high. It was known but confirmed that the ignition point was not yet known, as it was the first eyewitness report that there was a fire on the 12th floor.
The fire department and police estimate that the adhesive used to affix the panels to the exterior walls of the building is flammable and that the flame spreads rapidly. The panel was investigated as an aluminum composite panel, but it is still being determined whether the interior material is flame retardant or non-flammable.
The fire department has rescued a total of 77 people so far and transported 91 injured to hospitals, including smoke inhalation.
As soon as the search and extinguishing work is completed, the exact cause of the fire will be investigated.
