Twitter and Facebook warn of “false information” on claims of “producing corona in Chinese laboratories”

In response to Dr. Yan Li-Meng from the University of Hong Kong, who claimed that the coronavirus was created at the Wuhan Virus Research Institute in China, social media companies such as Twitter and Facebook judged it as false information and took measures such as account suspension.

US Newsweek reported on the 16th (local time) that Twitter recently suspended Dr. Yan’s Twitter account. Since last May, Twitter has introduced a policy to attach a tag (warning message) to controversial content related to Corona. Twitter said of the policy at the time: “It is intended to provide further clarification if people are still confused or misleading, even if the risk of damaging content is less severe.”

The suspension of Dr. Yen’s account goes a step beyond putting a label (a warning label). Twitter did not reveal which of Dr. Yan’s content was the problem.

Facebook and Instagram also displayed false information warnings in the video of Fox News’ current news program Tucker Carlson Tonight, starring Dr. Yan. After conducting an interview with Dr. Yen on this broadcast on the 15th, Fox News posted the video on their Facebook and Instagram accounts with the caption reading: “ Chinese Whistleblower – This virus was created in a lab. ”

On the 15th, Dr. Yan posted a 26-page article on the digital platform ‘Zenodo’ on the 15th, stating that China has artificially created the coronavirus.
