Preliminary meetings are scheduled throughout the city starting at 2:00 p.m.
On Saturday the 14th, meetings of the National Federation of Democratic Trade Unions and conservative organizations are held in various locations in central Seoul.
According to the Seoul Police Agency, 31 meetings focused on the KCTU were reported, including the Yeouido National Workers’ Congress and the National People’s Congress, and 47 meetings of conservative groups (85 locations) were reported. In the Yeouido area, where the main convention of the popular convention takes place, meetings were planned in 19 locations.
The preliminary assembly of affiliated organizations under the KCTU begins at 2 pm at 30 locations in Seoul. Public transport unions hold meetings in Yeouido and the Democratic Party, and metal unions hold meetings near Daebang station in Yeongdeungpo-gu. The General Democratic Federation meets at Gongdeok Station in Mapo-gu, and the Federation of Chemical Fibers meets in front of Seoul Station. The migrant unions begin their assembly at 12:00 noon at Jeontaeil Bridge, Jongno-gu.
After the preliminary assembly, the 99-person main conference will be held between Gates 1 and 12 of Yeouido Park starting at 3:00 p.m. It is reported that the majority of pre-meeting participants will not join the main event and will watch it online. Starting at 4 pm after the main meeting, a demonstration with 99 people each in five districts near the Democratic Party and the People’s Power in Yeouido will continue for about an hour.
The vehicle demonstrations were reported by the National Federation of Democratic Street Vendors (Sindicato Democrático de Trabajadores) and the Progressive Party, each with a scale of 50 vehicles. The Democratic Workers’ Union met near Jung-gu Deposit Insurance Corporation at 2 pm and headed to Yeouido, while the Progressive Party held a rally in front of the Ministry of Defense in Yongsan-gu and moved to Yeouido.
All assemblies reported do not exceed 99 people, which is the standard for the first stage of social distancing, and this year’s People’s Congress and Workers’ Congress are expected to be different from previous year-end meetings where they gathered tens of thousands of people. However, the police are also considering installing barriers when illegal activities occur such as a sudden increase in the number of assembly personnel at a specific location.
Conservative groups, who had been meeting every weekend with slogans such as condemning the government, reported on the day’s assembly at the Hyundai Jeokseon building in Jongno-gu, near the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office in Seocho-gu , Gangnam Station and Cheonggyecheon. Police also predicted that these concentrations will not exceed 99 people.
Police officers said: “We plan to make sure we comply with restrictions on the number of meeting places and quarantine rules, and completely block illegal activities against major facilities such as the National Assembly or the opposition party” and “Yes the number of people exceeds the allowed number, we will take a strict response, such as proceeding with the dissolution procedure, he said.
